Jeffrey give feedback Najib Described Pairin " True Malaysian Patriot "

KOTA KINABALU: While Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has described his brother Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan as a “true Malaysian patriot”, the Sabah chief of STAR considers his brother a “proxy and stooge” of Putrajaya.

“If a true patriot is one who condones the colonisation of Sabah and the suppression of the voices of Sabah/North Borneo then he or she must really simply be a proxy and stooge of Kuala Lumpur,” said Dr Jeffrey.

He was responding to Najib’s commendation of Pairin for his stand to ensure that Sabah continues to remain in Malaysia, when opening the 29th PBS annual delegates’ conference at the Likas Sports Complex here on Sunday.

Dr Jeffrey who is also the Bingkor assemblyman contended that while it is the right of the prime minister to call anybody a patriot for being loyal to him and his party, he nonetheless shouldn’t question the loyalty of those who cast doubt on his leadership and the government, by labelling them as traitors.

He reiterated that to call those who urge for the review of the Malaysia Agreement as secessionists is akin to saying that what is wrong and unfair cannot be questioned.

“It is the right and the duty of every citizen, what more a leader, to put things right and to question what is wrong for the good of the nation and its citizens,” he stressed. -Sabahtimes

Sabah not guarantee the safety of foreign tourists?

Sabah Column
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz says the Sabah kidnappings had dented the country's image further than the loss of the MH370 plane.

Certain places in Sabah remain unsafe for tourists, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz admitted today.

He said he was not willing to guarantee the safety of tourists in the state as long as the two kidnapping cases remained unsolved.

“I will not order tourism officials abroad to promote Sabah.

“Personally, I will not visit Lahad Datu. I do not want to ask for trouble,” said Nazri in wrapping up the 2015 Supplementary Bill  for his ministry in Parliament today.

He said so in reply to a question by Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PKR-Kuala Langat), who wanted him to convince tourists to visit the country.

Nazri said foreign tourists had admitted that the Sabah kidnapping had dented the country’s image further than the loss of the MAS MH370 plane.

“I do not want to be responsible for guaranteeing the safety of tourists in Sabah because if one gets kidnapped, I will be blamed.

“People in Beijing or Taiwan do not know where Lahad Datu or Sipadan is — all they know is that Sipadan is in Sabah, which is a part of Malaysia,” he said.

“They are not aware of the distance between Kota Kinabalu and Sipadan.

“As far as they are concerned, it’s in the same area.

“How am I to convince tourists that previous cases have been resolved?

“It also involves the kidnapping of a policeman guarding the waters off Sipadan. Is that safe for tourists?”

RCI REPORT : SAPP Youth for peaceful protest

SabahColumn
KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Youth yesterday held a peaceful protest in Chong Thien Vun Park and Gaya Street, calling for the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report to be tabled as soon as possible.

Despite the big presence of police, it did not dampen the spirit of more than 100 participants who braved the Sunday heat in the morning holding banners and placards.

SAPP Youth chief Jamain Sarudin said he did not expect the presence of a strong crowd because the Prime Minister had announced that the government would make public the findings of the RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah early December.

The planned protest which was earlier made known through the news and social media was pre-empted by the Prime Minister during his visit to Sabah to attend the UPKO Congress.

He said this showed the campaign by SAPP youth and certain groups to call for the release of the report RCI in social media had been fruitful.

“Before we held this peaceful protest, the Prime Minister had announced a day earlier that the RCI report will be out soon and we considered it a success of our struggle, said Sarudin.

Previously, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Rahman Dahlan issued a statement that the report will be tabled in parliament in October-November.

“We’ve become bored with promise after promise, statements by ministers made us angry and frustrated, he added.

The 30-minute peaceful assembly ended when directed by the police to disperse.

Jamain welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister on the RCI report issue. However, the youth movement should not be easily satisfied and hoped the announcement is not just to appease the people of Sabah.

“We do not want to see the RCI report postponed again due to the fact Datuk Rahman Dahlan who told in a forum that the report will be tabled in parliament during October to November session but was contrary to the PMs announcement.

Illegal immigrants problem in Sabah has been haunting the local people of Sabah and would become a nightmare if not resolved by the government early.

“We are deeply concerned that the future of our children and grandchildren will become refugees in their own land,” he stressed.

Among the leaders who were present were SAPP President Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, deputy presidents Melanie Chia and Edward Dagul, political veteran Datuk Hj Mohd Noor Mansoor and Datuk James Ligunjang, and some members of various NGOs.

MALAYSIA RECORD : LARGEST COFFEE DRINKING EVENT

MALAYSIA RECORD : LARGEST COFFEE DRINKING EVENT

KOPI TENOM Its aroma, fragrant. Its taste, enticing. That is the general experience when visiting the Yit Foh Coffee Factory, here.

The factory is one of the producers of Kopi Tenom. It has been operating since 1960 and is still employing the traditional way of producing coffee grounds: by roasting the beans over woodfire.

"This method is best in bringing out the true aroma of coffee", said its factory manager, Alex Yong, when met with Bernama at the factory in Kampung Chintamata, some 3km away from Tenom town.

Alex, who inherited the family business, opened up a new factory in 1993 and is now working at expanding the market for his products globally.

MALAYSIA RECORD : LARGEST COFFEE DRINKING EVENT

PRODUCING COFFEE

Making coffee starts with the process of sun drying coffee cherries for 14 days. After that, the outer layers of the dried cherries are hulled. It is then roasted from 7.00am to noon by a "coffee cook" while packing is done from 8.00am to 5.00pm.

Yong has 36 trained staff, including six "coffee cooks", capable of producing some 600 packets of coffee products daily.

Today, the company produces 10 coffee products that are marketed nationwide as well as in the neighbouring Brunei.

Besides providing local farmers income opportunities, Kopi Tenom has also helped familiarise Sabah in the way Cameron Highlands popularised Boh Tea.

KOPI TENOM FESTIVAL BREAKS RECORD

Coffee is one of Tenom's most important agricultural produce, so much so that the district has been dubbed "Sabah's coffee capital".

To further promote it, a coffee festival is being held from today (Nov 12) until Friday (Nov 14).

The festival will culminate in an event this Friday where 4,000 people will simultaneously drink coffee, to break the current record of 3,068 people as stated in the Malaysian Book of Records.

The Tenom District Officer, Madiyem Layapan said there would also be an exhibition on Kopi Tenom at the event, with the participation of two major coffee chains.

"We would also be flying in six Microlight aircraft carrying the Kopi Tenom flag", he said.

INTRODUCING TENOM TO THE WORLD

The festival will also feature various tourist attractions in Tenom, known for its heavy influence of Murut culture, and the Kopi Tenom Beauty Pageant.

Tenom is today one of Sabah's most promising sites for agricultural development for meeting the country's produce needs.

The 2,238sqkm area is located some 173km to the south of Kota Kinabalu and is bordering Keningau, Sipitang, Beaufort and the Kalimantan region of Indonesia.

Its MP Datuk Raimee Unggi represents 68,000 people, 70 per cent of them Murut. He believes that the district is an undiscovered goldmine of the agricultural industry and is determined to develop it.

"In Tenom, the main focus is to improve the economic standards among the villagers, as its crops and fruit products have a high commercial value", he told Bernama during a recent visit to the district.

He wants to create a farm produce collection centre in Tenom to collate and organise data on produce as well as generate better income for the locals.

Raimee who is also Tenom's Parliamentary Agriculture Development Council Chairman said the centre would be equipped with modern equipments, a packaging area and fresh produce storage.

"We want our farmers to be given the best price for their quality produce", he said.

Among the farm produce with good market potential are bananas, avocado, guava and papaya. -SABAHCOLUMN @SABAHTOURISM

Christina Liew ordered out of the hall By Deputy Speaker

KOTA KINABALU: State assemblywoman for Api-Api, Christina Liew, was ordered out of the state assembly sitting Thursday after she refused to withdraw the words “cheating government” which she uttered at the assembly.

Sabah Column
Bernama, the national news agency reported that Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun made the decision under Standing Order 53(1) after Liew declined to comply with the order to withdraw the words and to apologize to the house despite being told to do so several times.

Earlier, moments after the sitting began, Pantai Manis assemblyman Abdul Rahim Ismail rose to ask the Api-Api representative to withdraw the words “cheating government” she uttered during the debate on the Sabah State Budget 2015 on Monday.

Abdul Rahim said the Api-Api assemblywoman should withdraw the words before her oral question would be answered by state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad.

However, Liew declined and read the question which prompted Jainab to demand Liew to withdraw the words or the question would not be answered.

Liew told the assembly that there was no problem for her to apologize if the parties were disputing her credibility at the assembly over a High Court decision which linked her to a land grab scheme.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman then rose to tell the house that the issue of disputing the Api-Api representative’s credibility was based on a court decision.

The Deputy Speaker interjected, telling the Api-Api assemblywoman that when the issue of her credibility was raised in the house, the other members did not use words that violated the assembly’s standing order and told Liew to withdraw her words.

However, she was defiant, giving Mositun no choice but to order her out of the assembly for the rest of the day.

MASTERMINDS BEHIND SABAH, SARAWAK SECESSION IDENTIFIED

The masterminds behind the alleged Sabah, Sarawak secession move have been identified by the security authorities and action would be taken against them.

Sabah column
State Special Functions Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang said this in response to Jeremy Malajad (Independent-Kadamaian), Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail (BN-Pantai Manis) and Limus Jury (BN-Kuala Penyu), at the State Legislative Assembly today.

He said the government viewed the issue, sparked by a small irresponsible group, seriously.

If left unchecked, it could threaten national harmony and security, according to him.

Meanwhile, state Tourism, Culture and Environment assistant minister Datuk
Kamarlin Ombi said based on the federal Tourism and Culture Ministry’s report, the number of unlicensed tourist guides in Sabah is minimal.

“An unlicensed tourist guide could be fined up to RM7,000 or sentenced to up to two years’ imprisonment if found guilty,” he said in response to a question from Datuk Samsudin Yahya (BN-Sekong).

On permit compliance by tourist boat operators, Kamarlin said the licence is issued through the Port and Wharf Department and Marine Department, but the enforcement is done by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.– BERNAMA
